The sacral chakra is your body’s energy center for creativity, sexual pleasure, and sensuality.1 It is placed near the pubic bone, below the navel.
Our bodies are in constant communication with the energies around us. Every chakra stores and channels pranic energy (life-force energy) in our body, which influences the equilibrium of our physical body. The Sacral Chakra, also known as Svadhishthana Chakra, is the second of the seven major chakras. This chakra is crucial for our health because it stimulates creative and sexual energy while ensuring that our bladder, kidneys, and reproductive systems operate properly.
In this article, we will discuss everything about the Sacral Chakra or the Svadhishthana Chakra.
What Is The Sacral (Svadhishthana) Chakra?
Sacral Chakra is the body’s second energy center. It is the energy center for the vital force, also known as prana ‘vyana,’ or circulatory energy. It is related to the element water and the brilliant color orange. This energy helps you let go, accept change, and reinvent your life. It also has a direct impact on our creativity, intuition, and sexual satisfaction.
What Is The Sacral Chakra Related To?
Svadhisthana refers to ‘the dwelling place of the self’. It promotes personal growth, exploring one’s sexual desires, creativity, and overall happiness in life. The sacral chakra is linked to the bladder, kidneys, and reproductive functions. Water is the element that represents flow and flexibility. The activation of the Svadhisthana Chakra helps in letting go, accepting change, and experiencing personal transformation. The color orange promotes creativity and pleasure. The Svadhisthana Chakra mantra (Beej mantra) is Vam.
When the sacral chakra is balanced, our interactions with ourselves and the rest of the world become more positive, nurturing, and joyful. You will find your true creative potential, learn how to establish healthy relationships, and get an understanding of your emotions and how to deal with them. You will have more freedom to express your desires, needs, and emotions.
What Is The Sacral Chakra Responsible For?
Problems with this chakra could appear as issues with the related organs, such as infections in the urinary tract, pain in the lower back, and infertility. Emotionally, this chakra is associated with our feelings of self-worth, especially our self-worth in terms of pleasure, sexuality, and creative expression.
What Happens When The Sacral Chakra Is Not Balanced?
When the Sacral Chakra is blocked or unbalanced, you may feel emotionally unstable. You are likely to be too sensitive or completely out of touch with your feelings. You may be lacking in imagination and discipline, as well as addicted to sensory pleasure.
Anxiety, depression, and the fear of losing control over a relationship are all indicators of a blocked energy center. It also has an impact on our relationship with many physical parts of life, such as jobs.
It can also include some physical symptoms like:
- Lower back pain problems
- Joint problems
- Anemia
- Sexual problems
- Kidney issues
- Spleen issues
- Premenstrual symptoms
- Sinusitis
Yoga Poses To Balance The Sacral Chakra
Dhanurasana
Lay down with your forehead or cheeks on the carpet. Put your hands back to your outer ankles, and exhale, rise into a bow pose (dhanurasana). Rest more on your lower abdomen than on your hips or ribs. Pull back with your feet to bring yourself higher. Hold for 3 deep breaths before releasing. Repeat the process twice.
Kapotasana
Roll up to a sitting position, then into a downward-facing dog. Lift your right leg into a three-legged dog pose (eka pada adho mukha svanasana), then move your leg ahead, bending your knee and placing the right side of your calf on the mat. If you need extra support, place a block or blanket beneath your right thigh. Press your fingers down by your sides and puff out your chest to form a pigeon position (kapotasana). Slowly lower your upper body to the ground. Stay here for 10 breaths, then turn into a three-legged dog and change sides.
Trikonasana
Breathe and raise your arms next to your ears, reaching up and extending your spine. Put your palms together, making sure they form a straight line over your forehead. As you exhale, push your right heel into the floor and reach up and out to your left. Start the movement from the base of your spine, keeping both sides of your back stretched as you extend your complete body to the left. Try to breathe deeply and exercise consciously while respecting your body’s demands and limitations.
Kakasana
Start by standing on your mat with your feet shoulder-width apart. Now, bend forward and let your knees bend, resting against your upper arms just above your elbows. Maintain the connection between your arms and knees while placing your hands on the floor. Shift your weight to your hands and lift your feet off the floor, one at a time, bringing them up towards your hips. If you feel stable, use your hands to straighten your arms as far as possible. Hold the position for as long as it feels comfortable while breathing evenly. Remember to not force your body into doing the pose and make any necessary adjustments to achieve a comfortable and stable position.
Conclusion
The Svadhishthana Chakra represents creativity, the ability to maintain meaningful relationships, and sexual energy. If these essential energies are blocked or if you focus on negative thoughts and patterns it can create barriers that may negatively impact your mental and physical health. It is important to balance the 7 chakras of the body through yoga positions or by other methods. Restoring balance to the second chakra is essential for becoming a more strong and confident person.
